AFC Dons v Wooton Town

AFC Wimbledon 3-0 Wooton (<Saturday 22nd November 2003>)

Firstly well done to Trevor & co for all their hard work before the game making sure as much water as possible was drained off the pitch and making sure this game went a head.

After the roller-coaster of Wednesday, Terry started off with our standard formation of 442, with Matt Martin in for cup tied Lee Carroll and the rest of the team having no surprises, Wooton BX came out wearing what looked like rugby shirts maybe hoping that the England performance in the rain earlier may rub off on them, but from the start the Dons where in control.

The Dons 1st goal came on 30 minutes when Harvey broke down the wing and laid the ball on to Coops who turned two players steadied himself before unleashing a fine strike into the far top corner taking a light deflection of a Wooton BX defender, the Dons could have wrapped up just before half time but for a goalline clearance from a Matt Everard header.

The 2nd half started with the Dons attacking the athletics end, most people opted not to change ends and the Dons 2nd goal came with plenty of people still drying off in the bars, Wooton BX defenders tried to clear the area five times before the ball fell to Gavin Bolger on the six yard box who drove the ball low into the goal 2-0.

The game was basically over at this point as even though Wooton BX where playing well, when ever they had the ball in midfield Seb, Gavin or Joe and even Coops would be on top of them, and if they got pass them the solid back four would clear with easy for either Sidwell or Ryan Gray to attack down the wings.

With time running out and the rain still coming down no stop some people started to leave early, something I will never understand when your winning don't you want to applaud your team off the pitch or if your losing don't you want to support your team to the end with a hope of winning, as it was we where winning and the rain didn't matter and it wouldn't have been a cup match without a Matt Everard goal and with six minutes left Ryan Gray supplied a perfect corner to the center of the goal where Matt was waiting to head the ball between a defender and the Wooton BX keeper 3-0.

The draw for the next round will be on Monday, will post here as soon as known lets hope for another home tie with less rain, the next round game will be played on the 13th which means the game against the AFC Wallingford will have to be arranged also announced was that the away Surrey Senior Cup match against Ash on Wednesday the 3rd December has been switch to Kingsmeadow.
